Essential oils for cellulite... What is cellulite? According to Merriam-Webster medical dictionary it’s deposits of subcutaneous fat within fibrous connective tissue (as in the thighs, hips and buttocks) that give a puckered and dimpled appearance to the skin surface.

What causes cellulite? There are a number of causes:

1. Poor circulation
2. Lack of oxygen
3. Water retention
4. Hormonal changes
5. May be related to the menstrual cycle
6. May be related to poor lymph drainage in both women and men
7. An unbalanced endocrine system
8. Allergies (particularly wheat and milk)
9. Environmental or dietary toxicity

Today’s environment makes it difficult to fight cellulite. Everywhere you turn you are faced with contaminates or toxins which clog up your body tissues.

The food that is grown today contains pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides, which are used in modern farming techniques. (Unless you buy organic) These techniques are pressured upon the world by giants like Monsanto.

Antibiotics, hormones, and steroids are fed to animals so end up in the meat that you eat. The fish you eat also contain chemicals like mercury or hormones from birth control pills that find their way into the water.

The air you breathe and water you drink contain toxins. These toxins find their way there from technology or being put there by man, such as fluoride or chlorine.

One of the first steps you can take to eliminate cellulite is through diet change and by adding vitamins and minerals.

1. Eat raw vegetables
2. Eat pasture raised chicken, turkey and eggs (watch out for the term free-range because it may not mean these animals have ranged freely on a pasture)
3. Eat whole grain bread and rice
4. Drink spring water (beware of bottled water that claims to be spring), fresh fruit juice (not store bought), and herbal teas
5. Increase your intake of vitamin c, zinc and b vitamins

The second step includes:

1. Exercise
2. Essential oils
3. Increase blood flow
4. Massage
5. Oxygen
6. Relaxation

Do exercises that target the areas where cellulite tends to be found like the thighs, hips, and buttocks. These areas are often places that don’t get exercise.

By putting essential oils in the bath water these oils will penetrate the skin and help to break down the fatty deposits.

Increase blood circulation by using skin brushing. Use a brush with real bristles like the old time boar bristle brush. Brush upward all over the body.

Massage the whole body every day. This condition is an overall problem so it’s important to not just massage the cellulite areas, but the whole body.

Deep breathing exercises will help to shift the deposits.

Stress can cause the deposits to adhere. Relaxation allows the body to shift the waste and fat deposits.

Essential Oil Soaks

Soaking in a hot Epsom salts bath will sweat out toxins and fat. There are cooperative combinations of essential oils that can be added to the Epsom salts bath.

Those that are blended in a 2:1 ratio are: lemon and thyme, and patchouli and sage. Those that are blended in a 1:1 ratio are: lemon and oregano, and juniper and rosemary.

After blending these oils add 8 drops to the bath water. While you are in the tub massage the cellulite areas.

Essential Oil Massage Oils

Essential oil that benefit cellulite should be added to a base oil mixture of 1 ounce of sweet almond oil to which 5 drops of carrot seed oil and 5 drops of jojoba oil has been added. The entire body should be massaged with the oil two times a day, morning and evening.
