In 2002, physicians at the University of Montreal, McGill University, and other medical centers in Quebec conducted a randomized, double-blind study about the use of krill oil for relieving premenstrual syndrome symptoms. It was published in 2005 in the Alternative Medicine Review (Volume 8, Number 2).
The three-month clinical study found that krill oil dramatically improved both the physical and emotional symptoms of PMS and dysmenorrhea, painful or difficult menstruation.

Women are now turning to alternative or natural remedies for PMS relief. Omega-3 fatty acids are among the most effective nutritional therapies, according to numerous studies. Natural progesterone cream is another affective natural remedy.
Some experts believe that
premenstrual syndrome
might stem from an imbalance of the female hormones estrogen and progesterone during the second half of the menstrual cycle, after ovulation. Too little progesterone and too much estrogen limit the production of certain neurotransmitters that control inflammation-related pain and mood. The fatty acids EPA and DHA in the omega-3s have potent anti-inflammatory properties, which help ease PMS symptoms of headaches, cramps, bloating, and nausea and vomiting.
